Snow Hill Townsends

John Townsend was born in 1640 in Accomack, VA. He married and moved his family to Snow Hill, Somerset, Co., MD.  This family group is generally known as the Snow Hill Townsends.

Buell Ray Townsend is the great-great-grandson of Allen B. Townsend and Buell´s DNA is considered a match for the Townsends who have documented their relationship to John Townsend.

Allen B. Townsend was born in Virginia on March 28, 1816 almost 200 years after John Townsend. He and his family are recorded in the 1860 Travis Co., Texas census (pg. 23 # 317). His wife was Sallie Martha (Lamb) b. 1830 in Arkansas.

They had six children:

1-Drewry b. Feb. 11, 1849, Arkansas; d. August 18, 1916, Caldwell Co., Texas.He married Narrcissa Jane White.

2-James (Jim) Townsend b. Jan. 01, 1851, d. 1919 Florence, Williamson Co., Texas. He married Clara C. Custard b. March 5, 1859 Merriltown, Travis Co., Texas d. 1888, Jarrell, Texas.

3-Mandy b. 1852

4-M.(Martha?) J. b. 1853

5-Newton b.1854

6-F. Townsend b. 1857
